Configure users, roles and permissions

The assignment of roles and permissions is done in GRIP. This Identity and Access Management platform is developed by KPN, specifically designed for Business Users. It enables organizations to securely and efficiently manage access to their applications and services.

To assign roles, you must be an admin of the account. As an administrator, you can add or remove users and configuratie roles and permissions for your services.

Access the User Management section

There are three options ways to get to the User Management screen.

  1. Log in with MijnKPN

  2. Log in with KPN Things Portal

  3. Log in using the direct link

Depending on your proposition, you can access GRIP either via MijnKPN Zakelijk or via the Things Portal. In case you are using a Freemium or Explorer proposition, GRIP is always accessed through the Things Portal.

Open MijnKPN via https://mijnkpnzakelijk.kpn.com

Open User Management

Click on the User Management link in the menu-item Company Details

You are now in GRIP Users

You are now in the User section of GRIP where you can manage users and roles

Log in with KPN Things Portal

Open the Things Manager tab

  1. Open the KPN Things Portal via https://portal.kpnthings.com/manager or click on the Things Manager tab in the KPN Things Portal

  2. Click on your Company in the menu

  3. Click on User Profiles under Account

Open User Management

Click on the Manage Users link shown above the users overview.

Add user

Select Add User

Click on the Add User button

Provide the general information

  1. Fill in the general details of the new user

  2. Select the Send email to set password option to send a password email immediately. This can also be done at a later time, for example after you’ve configured all roles and permissions.

  3. Click the Add User button

Define Service and Roles

Roles and Access Levels

When adding new User or API key for KPN Things, one or more Roles must be selected to grant the User or API Key a set of permissions. The below list shows the available roles for KPN Things and describes what levels of access each of the roles gives to the user in KPN Things.

Full management access to the Things Manager

To Add/Update/Remove all objects, like devices, flows, destinations etc.

Things Manager Editor

Partial management access to the Things Manager

To Add/Update objects like devices, flows, etc., but not to Remove those objects

Things Manager Read-only

Read-only access to the Things Manager

To View all objects, but not to Add/Update or Remove any of those objects

Things Support

Access to the support pages in the Things Portal

To View all support pages and documentation

Finance Read-only

Access to costs and contract in the Things Portal

To View the predicted costs of the current month and items and discounts on your contract

Things Creator Admin

Full management access to the Things Creator

To Add/Update/Remove your own device types, decoders and scripts.

Things Creator Read-Only

Read-only access to the Things Creator

To View your own device types, decoders and scripts.
